MENTIGI BAY DIVE CENTRE
We offer our guests the chance to dive if they wish, however we would like to point out that we primarily offer cruising adventures rather than a dedicated diving experience. If your main focus is diving then perhaps you would be better off considering a dedicated dive liveaboard rather than one of our boats. For us, diving is something we offer in addition to adventures and sightseeing on the many islands we visit, or the wonderful snorkeling that can be found at many of the places we call at.
If you want to dive while you are cruising with us, you should let us know from when you make your first enquiry, as some of our boats and our routes are more suitable for diving than others as not all our boats carry compressors or dive tanks as a matter of routine. Diving in Indonesia can be challenging, and it is not advisable for guests to dive alone at sites which they are not familiar with. We strongly recommend that you dive with an experienced dive guide, the cost of which is included in our diving tariff. Because divers have different preferences and needs, we do not offer rental diving equipment. If you do not have your own gear, we will take you to a dive shop and arrange for you to hire the equipment at cost.
Dive packages: The cost of our dive packages includes dive guide, tanks, and weight belts. Costs vary according to the number of times you intend to dive, and on what route your are cruising. Please ask us for more information when you make your enquiry.
DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT
We are the first and only dive centre at the North West coast of Lombok, situated on a beautiful quiet bay just opposite from the famous Gili Island. We put up an idyllic spot with our own office, dive shop, warung and boats. We have hammocks and big beanbags to crush into if you want to relax. The bay is also the harbor of our traditional schooners whenever they are not on a tour.
We could go diving with our normal outrigger boat, but we could also do something else and go with one of our traditional phinisi ships and enjoy the day on board.
We could go giving on the regular dive sites around the Gili’s, with a chance to meet four of five other dive boats, or we could do something else and go to less visited dive sites along the north west coast. Eg. Malimbu, Nipah, Japanese Wreck, Turtle Reef and Teluk Nare and many more.
DIVE SITES
Malimbu and Nipah
The bays of Malimbu and Nipah have several dive sites. There are at the far end of the bay (tanjung) and some in the bay it self. The bay hides some beautiful corals, sponges, gorgonians and spiral coral. Maybe we fine some baby sharks hiding under a rock. The tanjung is more prone to current and thus more fish.
Japanese Wreck
This dive is only for advanced divers because it’s a deep dive. The wreck lies at about 30-40m depth. This is mostly a short dive because we have to stay within our no deco limits.
Teluk Nare
A really good muck dive spot!! For beginner it might seem strange the first time, to glide over sandy and muddy bottom, no corals and full off rubbish but hidden in the rubbish or under the sand the weirdest creatures can be found! Also along the ropes of moorings and the jetty much nice stuff can be seen. The bottom of the jetty is like an upside-down coral garden!
Turtle Reef
This reef, known with the locals as Takad Penyuh, lies further north from Mentigi. It is a steep wall starting at 6m and going to 80m, called turtle reef for its many turtles that live there.
DIVE COURSES
We offer full scale PADI dive courses. We can teach in English, Dutch and Indonesia. The courses we offer.
DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING (short DSD):
A one day course, which includes the very basics of diving theory, one session in the shallow waters of Mentigi Bay and one dive to 12m in the open water.
SCUBA DIVER:
A two day course, with theory, a skill session in shallow water, and two open water dives to 12m. Basically the Scuba Diver Course is half of the Open Water Course. When you finish the course you will get a certification which allows you to dive to 12m, but only when accompanied by a dive master or higher qualification.
OPEN WATER COURSE:
A three/four day course, which includes theory, videos, two shallow water sessions, and four dives (two to 12m and two to 18m). At the end of the course you will be certified to dive to 18m with a buddy who has an open water license or higher.
ADVANCED OPEN WATER COURSE:
This two day, five dive courses, is really practical and a lot of fun. Not much reading and a lot of diving, putting your skill to the test in the water. To complete the Advanced Course you must do the DEEP Dive and the NAVIGATION dive. You can then choose from other dives like night diving, underwater photography, multi-level computer diving, peak performance buoyancy, naturalist and fish identification, to make up the other three dives.
RESCUE DIVER:
This four day course is designed to give you necessary knowledge and skills to prevent and/or deal with any problems or emergencies relating to diving. Dealing with stressful situations to help save lives, the Rescue Diver Course is extremely rewarding and will ensure you feel more comfortable and in control when diving.
DIVE MASTER:
Becoming a Dive master takes you on to the first professional step of the PADI ladder. It is a four week course which works like an internship. You will be expected to help out like a staff member, as well as complete dive theory, assist the instructor, give dive briefings, guide certified divers, make a map of one of our dive sites, demonstrate skill to students and much more. You have UNLIMITED diving for the whole month. This is an excellent course for those who want to continue their diving career, or just want to learn more and find out how a dive shop operates.

a try out takes 1 day first some basic theory, then a try out in the pool or confined water then a shallow dive. Price IDR 550.000,- - Open Water: (max. depth 18m)
First course, world wide, for life, you can dive by yourself with a buddy 3 or 4 days.

Theory: read 5 chapters related to the dive, no exam

To become a better diver, learn more about diving and skills takes 2 or 3 days
5 dives: 2 compulsory (navigation and deep dive), 3 of own choice (eg. night dive, drift dive, photography etc.)
Theory: read the 5 chapters related to the dive, no exam

to be able to rescue in case of an emergency takes 3 or 4 days do EFR course
Theory: read the rescue book
